Year 1's trip to London Zoo

We had such a fantastic time on our trip to the zoo.

First we went to the 'Into Africa' exhibit, where we saw warthogs, wild dogs, zebras and giraffes.

Next we saw the tigers (even though they are not from Africa, but a completely different continent- Asia)!
The tiger walked right past us!

After that we went for our lunch. We sat in front of some monkeys. They were very interested in what we were up to and kept coming to say "hello"!

Next, we visited the lions. They must have been very tired because they did lots of sleeping!

Last of all we went to see the monkeys. We had to count how many there were and write the answer in our special zoo books.

Finally it was time to go back to school. What a long day!

Did you have fun at the zoo?

Goodbye Chicks!

Our chicks have now returned to the farm, where they will have all of the space that they need to grow up into chickens.

They had a lovely time with us and the lady that collected them commented on how happy and healthy they looked.

Do you have any messages to pass on to the farmer?

What was your favourite thing about having chicks in our classroom?

Comment below to let us know...

My favourite part was holding them, but my least favourite part was when they started to get a bit smelly!

Chick watch!

This weekend I have been busy looking after the chicks. They have been eating lots of food and growing bigger and bigger each day! I can’t wait for year one to see how much they have changed on Monday. Can you see some of the chick’s new feathers?

Terrific Transport

We love our 'On the move' topic!

In our science lessons, we have been investigating which material is best for making model planes. We made a hypothesis (prediction) and then made our planes out of the different materials.

We chose to test paper, fabric, foil, tissue, cardboard and newspaper. We measured how far each plane travelled and made sure we started from the same place every time so that it was fair.

We got lots of different answers but most groups found out that paper or card were the best materials for making a plane!

We also LOVE playing in our fantastic garage roleplay area.
We practice cleaning the cars and have lots of tools to fix them.

We were interested in finding out what is under the bonnet of a real car so we went to explore Mrs McDonald's car!
Can you remember what all of the different parts are for?                      engine                       steering wheel     dipstick                           fuel tank   pedals                    ignition                                                             indicators                                      headlights                                                               brake lights                                                          mirrors

Our dark cave!

1M have turned their role play area into a cave!

We love our cave. There are minibeasts, glow in the dark stars, torches to see in the dark AND we can make cave pictures on the walls with chalk!

Do you like the 1M cave?

What else could we put in there? Share your ideas below...
