Our trip to the seaside!

We had an amazing time on our trip to Eastbourne.

First we went on a long train journey and the ticket man gave us our own tickets from his machine!

When we finally got to the seaside, we had a picnic on the beach and then we had a treasure hunt. We found shells, pebbles, seaweed and even gold coins!

After that, we paddled in the sea...

...and went for a walk along the pier.

Then we came back to school. What a long day!

What was your favourite part of the trip?

Animation project

In our ICT lesson today, we learnt about animation.

We talked about films or cartoons that we have seen that have been animated and explored how they are made up of lots of still pictures.

We looked at each tiny movement that the different objects made.

How many movies can you think of that are animations?

Can you make your own animation using 2animate (on PurpleMash)?

Keep checking the blog. We will be adding our Year 1 seaside animations soon...

Seaside Poetry

This week we have been exploring poetry.

We practised finding words that rhyme. Can you keep up with these rhyming challenges?

We practised using alliteration. This is when words start with the same sound.

Can you spot the alliteration in our amazing seaside poems?

We wrote the poems ourselves and published them using 2publish on PurpleMash.

At the seaside!

This half term our topic is 'At the seaside' and year one are so excited! We even decided to have our own seaside day to find out what it is like at the seaside.
We were able to have a lovely paddle in our paddling pool and rest our feet.

Some of us decided to become fantastic sculptures and make some fantastic sandcastles using shells they had found on the beach!

We also had fun making our own ice creams to sale at the seaside.

Ahoy Matey!
Can you tell me what you like to do at the seaside?

Year 1's trip to London Zoo

We had such a fantastic time on our trip to the zoo.

First we went to the 'Into Africa' exhibit, where we saw warthogs, wild dogs, zebras and giraffes.

Next we saw the tigers (even though they are not from Africa, but a completely different continent- Asia)!
The tiger walked right past us!

After that we went for our lunch. We sat in front of some monkeys. They were very interested in what we were up to and kept coming to say "hello"!

Next, we visited the lions. They must have been very tired because they did lots of sleeping!

Last of all we went to see the monkeys. We had to count how many there were and write the answer in our special zoo books.

Finally it was time to go back to school. What a long day!

Did you have fun at the zoo?

Handa's Surprise

Can you remember the story?

We have been practising improving the story, by adding adjectives, verbs and adverbs to make each sentence more exciting.

Can you think of some of your own super sentences?

African Music

Today, we explored African music and talked about how drums could make lots of different sounds.

How many different sounds can you hear?

We practiced keeping a rhythm using African drums, tambourines and maracas.

Next, we used microphones to record our fantastic performance of 'Jambo Bwana', a famous Kenyan song.

Click the link below to listen...

1W used microphones and our class camera to record a Ghana chant called 'Che Che Kulee'. Have a watch below...

Let's go on an adventure to.... Africa!

Mrs McDonald and I are looking forward to going back to school and starting our new topic Africa!

We can't wait to hear what you all know about Africa already!

Can you find Africa on the world map?

Do you know what type of animals live in Africa? Do you know any different languages that they speak in Africa?
